Why Is The HoliDaze Divided Into Two Parts, This One And The HoliDaze Blog?

I started traveling in 2008 and from day one had a blog. It was called Shibuya Daze and chronicled my move to Tokyo -- but it was intended only for friends back home, so that they would know I was still alive. The posts were mostly drunken rambles and stories of parties, nothing that anyone who didn't know me would find interesting.

By the beginning of 2009 I had quit my job and was back in Asia, having decided to travel full-time. But I still didn't do much with my blog though because I was always too busy drinking, exploring and hanging out with locals.

It wasn't until 2011 that I decided to get serious about blogging. I purchased ShibuyaDaze.com and transferred over all my old posts (for the sake of preserving their memory) but none of the comments. However I quickly grew tired of answering the "what is Shibuya?" question and in 2012 purchased theHoliDaze.com. (Answer: It is the ward in Tokyo where I lived.)

Because I wanted hundreds of people to be able to share their stories and advice on The HoliDaze, I built it using Joomla but was unable to import my old Shibuya Daze posts. So I created the subdomain blog.theHoliDaze.com and built a separate WordPress site there to give me my own private corner where I can rant, rave and drop the F bomb at will.

At first 90% of the traffic was to the core section of the HoliDaze, this part, but by 2014 most of the traffic was to my blog. Turns out people like my candor and are entertained by my crazy adventures. However I am trying to shift things back and get it to a more even 50-50 split.

Who Is Eligible To Join The HoliDaze And Become An Author? Can A Business?

The HoliDaze is open to everyone. While our primary authors are travel bloggers, expats, and other vagabonds, anyone with an interest in traveling and world cultures can share their input. This does include hotels, hostels, resorts, excursion operators, travel agencies, and anyone else related to the travel industry -- although articles submissions by businesses/brands do have a couple of simple restrictions.

If you are in the travel/tourism industry and wish to submit an article, we'd love to have your input. What we do not want to read is a elf-promotional "article" advertising your business. Be more creative than that! Write about the things to do in your town or provide helpful tips for foreigners. A well-written and useful article such as that will get a lot more shares than a self-promotial piece of crap that no one will read, and that in turn will lead to more traffic to your site from interested individuals and potential clients.

This is strictly enforced. Users who violate this simple request will be immediately banned and have their articles removed.

Are There Any Article Guidelines? What Can I Not Write About?

Basically you can write about whatever and wherever you want, as long as you do not plagiarize and it does not include any affiliate links. And yes, you are free to drop the F bomb or talk about that time you slept with a ladyboy in Bangkok. In fact I encourage it! (The being blunt part, not the ladyboy part...although to each their own).

Most of you can stop reading now, but for all the lawyers out there, here is the legal mumbo-jumbo:

1.All names have been changed to protect the innocent and not-so-innocent alike. No illegal or immoral acts were commited in the making of this blog.

2.Submitted articles must be written by you the author and you must retain the necessary rights to such content. Copyright remains with you the author at all times. Plagiarized (i.e. unauthorized copied) content is not allowed and will result in immediate member termination.

3.Article submissions are by definition a complete body of work such as a blog post that addresses the topic fully by itself. The entirety of the subject is located inside the article submission in full.

4.Incomplete article submissions shall remain unpublished for a minimum of thirty (30) days to allow the author time to update and publish their story. Any partial articles that remain after this initial period may be removed from the database if no attempt has been made by the author to publish said article during that time.

Can I Add Photos And Videos To My Articles? What About Other Attachments?

Yes, most definitely. When composing an article you can use the image button to upload and embed a photo. Just don't forget to use the Image tab to select a featured photo from the ones you have uploaded.

All Photo submissions should be owned by you OR otherwise include links that credit the owner provided permissible in the copyright or creative commons license.

Videos   Unlike Article and Photo submissions, you the user do not need to retain ownership of Video submissions. All that is required for Video submission is the URL from YouTube, Vimeo, or any of the other mainstream video hosting sites and a brief description. Embed a video using the Media tab during article submission.

Other Media   You can also attach Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations and other related media using the Attachments tab. (The uploading of ZIP files, EXE programs and other potentially dangerous or copyright infringing material has been blocked.)
