Continuing the HoliDaze monthly awards for the Best New Travel Blogs, I proudly present to you the May 2014 edition.

Best New Travel Blogs of May 2014: Travelling Times

This blog started out a few months ago as a university project by my buddy Andy Parsons, a good Twitter friend of mine and an amazing photographer. Already the site has evolved into a very well-written and informative fresh take on traveling and I anticipate it will continue on long past the days of being a mere project. If you want to find out where to eat in Paris or read a nice article about how beautiful Barcelona is, you might consider looking somewhere more mainstream. However if you want to find out more information about places that are overlooked by the bulk of tourists or find out how long-term travelers have become successful digital nomads, well then this is the site for you!

42nd Class

One couple, one year, one world travel blog

42nd Class

I’ll be honest here, I was hesitant to add 42nd Class to this list. Not because of the quality of their blog or anything like that, but rather because Cassie and Oren are on a one year adventure and I fear that once this year is done, they will stop blogging. However Cassie is a certified ESL teacher and Oren has his pilots license so there is no reason why they cannot pursue work abroad and continue their adventure. My only hope is that by providing them with the support that they deserve we can help this become a reality! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Contented Traveller

Just barely edging in before the one-year cutoff is Contented Traveller, a blog by Paula and Gorden that is celebrating their one year blogiversary this month. I love this blog because of their nonchalant travel style and belief that whatever will be, will be. They also embrace connecting with locals, something I am a firm advocate of. The Contented Traveller offers a lot of travel information, advice, and tips on Europe and Asia. as well as in interesting series called “Outside My Front Door” where fellow bloggers share, well, what’s outside their front door ๐Ÿ˜‰

Best New Travel Blogs of May 2014: Basket Life Travel

I’ll admit it, Baskets Life had me captivated from the brief but amazingly heartfelt opening biography on their. (I won’t stoop to using any basketball puns and save us both the embarrassment.) Stacey did a complete 180 after meeting the man who would become her husband. She closed her business, sold everything she owned, and completely — and I say this with love — became the most quintessential embodiment of someone abandoning the “American Dream.” Now she, her husband, kids and German Shepard Duke all live as a professional traveling family in Europe.

Milgrations

Why migrate when you can milgrate? Or in other words follow Milene along on her adventures around the globe, primarily South America. I appreciate the honesty and complete candor in her writings, and although she does not publish as frequently as some authors do, I find that a tad refreshing. There is no need to write a post every day or every other day, but rather only when you have something worthy to share ๐Ÿ™‚

Globalmouse Travels

This insightful blog follows a nomadic family of five in search of the unusual and is a blast to read — both for those considering family travel and others looking for a fresh take on new locations. Although the blog layout itself is rather bland (forgive me, just continuing with the blatant honesty that is prevalent throughout my blog) the content is far more rewarding. So far their posts mostly document traveling around Europe and North America (except for one post on North Korea about a trip before they started a family) but even so I’m hooked and looking forward to seeing what adventures lie ahead for them ๐Ÿ™‚

Derek loves going to new destinations where he does not speak a word of the local language and must communicate with hand gestures, or places where he is forced to squat awkwardly to poo -- supposedly its healthier and more efficient. • You are most welcome Paula and Gordon, it was my pleasure to add you to the list. I’ve been reading a lot of your blog posts these last few days and have really enjoyed them. Keep up the good work your second blogiversary will be here before you know it ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • You are most welcome! Although I am a solo traveler, I always admire the families that can successfully travel the world. As such a big cheers to y’all, keep up the great work! BTW, I really enjoyed your Mass Games post, I think that was the first one I ever read from your blog. Seeing that firsthand has been a life goal of mine! Oh and as a final side note, if you ever want to give your site a facelift then let me know. Web design is what I do on the side to help support my nomadic lifestyle and I’m always helping out fellow bloggers ๐Ÿ™‚ (shameless plug complete, my apologies!)

    • You are most welcome Stacey. Speaking of, I completely forgot to email you regarding what we had discussed on Twitter — I’ve been a bit busy, to say the least. Will drop you a line later this week. In the meantime, have fun on the road and best wishes! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • It is Marta, and that is exactly why I am happy to help ๐Ÿ™‚ Everyone is always interviewing the professional bloggers and sharing the long-time travel blogs, yet few opportunities like this exist for newbie travel bloggers. As such, what started as a one-time post has evolved into a monthly series here at the HoliDaze. Some of the people in months past have already seen large boosts in site traffic, readership/engagement, and other opportunities.

Speaking of, how old is your blog? I only see four posts so I am assuming it is still rather new ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Hi Derek. Thanks for the quick reply. Yes my blog is a newborn – just 3 months old, so it definitely crossed my mind to apply for the June’s selection! I am working on some new posts, so you are going to hear from me soon! ๐Ÿ˜€
